The ruthless dove

Once there was a dove couple who lived on high trees by the edge of the valley. They lived very happily. They sang to each other in their marvelous voices and enjoyed each other's company. All the people in that valley enjoyed the song of these doves.
The days passed by and they had two offsprings. Everyday they flew over the hills and valleys to find food for their babies. The two offspring grew up very soon. They were very happy to have nice brood. They enjoyed singing and feeding on the farmers’ fields.

One day it happened that the father Dove was busy collecting bean seeds from the nearby field and had send two seeds to be given to the baby doves. Mother Dove carried on the job. On the way the Mother Dove rested for a while on a branch of a tree. The gusty wind blew and a seed fell. She could not trace out where it had fallen. Sadly, the Mother Dove went to the nest and fed half each to the babies. In the evening the father Dove asked them “Did your mother give you a bean seed each?” “No”, They shouted. She narrated what had happened on the way but the Father Dove did not believe what she said. He thought that the mother dove had eaten one of the bean seed.

In his anger he wanted to open up her neck to find the missing bean seed and when he did that, he found nothing. The mother dove was cut opened on her neck and was dead. He was very sad on not being able to find the missing bean seed and killing his wife without giving a second thought.
A year passed after that and one day on returning to his nest. He rested on a tree and found bean flowers blooming. It had grown from the seed that the mother dove had dropped. He lamented on the same and started singing “MA ZAN KHA ZAN DENDU REE, PRUI, PRUI…” (meaning, it’s true that she had not eaten one…...)
