The stingy man

(The story was narrated to us by a marvelous Canadian story teller and a writer, Joanne LeBlanc-Haley. )

Once there was a farmer who had all regular kinds of animals on his farm. Among his animals was a very special rooster.
One day the animals were all looking for their food and the rooster too was looking for something to eat and was pecking around when he found a silver dollar.
Just as he was about to fly and give it to the farmer, a great big shiny car pulled up and out stepped Mr. Stingy Man.
“Give me your silver dollar” said the Stingy Man in his hoarse voice. The rooster refused but the stingy man grabbed the dollar and jumped back into his great big shiny car and drove home.
When he got there, he opened a huge steel door and put the silver dollar in the vault with all the rest of his money and closed the steel door. Then he went over to his window and sat down.
Did that rooster like that? NO! He was a very special rooster.
He flew over to the stingy man’s house and began to sing;
“ Hey Mr. Stingy Man
Listen to me holler
Cock a doodle doo
Give me back my dollar”
The stingy man was surprised to see the rooster, so he called his son and asked him to take the rooster and throw him in the bottom of the well. The son took the rooster and threw him in the bottom of the well.

Did it bother the rooster? NO! It was a very special rooster.
He began to sing;
“Belly belly belly,
Take in all the water.
Belly belly belly,
Take in all the water”.
Bub… bub… bub… All the water went into the belly of the rooster.
He flew right back over to the stingy man’s house and he began to sing;
“ Hey Mr. Stingy Man
Listen to me holler
Cock a doodle doo
Give me back my dollar”.
The stingy man was stunned to see the rooster again and called his son once more and asked him to take the rooster and throw him into the fiery furnace. The son took the rooster and threw him into the fiery furnace.

Did it bother the rooster? NO! It was a very special rooster.
He began to sing;
“Belly belly belly,
Let out all the water.
Belly belly belly,
Let out all the water”. He let out all the water and the fire went out. He flew out of the furnace and went right back to the window sill. The stingy man was very much taken aback to see the rooster. He called his son yet again and asked him to take the rooster and throw him in the beehive. The son took the rooster and put him into the beehive.

Did it bother the rooster? NO! It was a very special rooster.
He began to sing;
“Belly belly belly,
Take in all the bees
Belly belly belly,
Take in all the bees”.

And buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz all the bees went into the belly of the rooster. He flew out of the beehive and went straight to the window sill.
He did not call his son this time and said “I am going to do it myself”. He grabbed the rooster around his neck and took him in and said “I am going to sit on you”.

Did it bother the rooster? NO! It was a very special rooster.
He began to sing;
“Belly belly belly,
Let out all the bees.
Belly belly belly,
Let out all the bees”.
The bees came out and began to sting the stingy man. He shouted “Ouch…Ow oooooo” and he could not bear the stings and shouted again “Alright, alright… I will give you your silver dollar.”

They walked to the vault. He opened up the steel door and the rooster looked at all the money and very quietly began to sing;
“Belly belly belly,
Take in all the money
Belly belly belly,
Take in all the money”.

And ching..ching…ching… all the money went into the belly of the rooster. The rooster flew home and gave the farmer all the money and they lived happily ever after.
